Description"In the center of rutland adjoining Evergreen Cemetary on West St. stands a colonial structure, dating back a century and a half, known as the Groogan-Loveland house; This white clapboard 2 1/2 story building with its distinctive entrance is situatied against a background of ancient trees and sloping hills; distinguishing features which have been perserved are the fine moldings, the kitchen mantel and Dutch oven, the beautiful McIntire mantel with its exquisite carving flanked by arched recesses, the oval plaques, the fan window over the arched doorway, the curiously flat arched palladian window above, the unusually planned winding stairway and old English imported paper of 1812 in the hall; other interseting features to be seen in this old landmark are the English locks, secret cupboard, hand-hewn timbers, long wrought iron hinges and old latches; William (Gookin or Googan) for whom this well proportioned house was built, was born in Dedham, Mass. in 1784" There are 3 shrubs at the front door and # 465.
