DescriptionWater cooler or gurglet. Inglazed water pot, opening at top, long narrow neck and wider, bulbous body culminating in flared base. Uneven coloring, patchy, light areas to dark yellow with dark brown "drippings" spots on shoulder of pot. Manufacture: thrown on wheel, fired, unglazed. Glued to neck, ripped scrap of paper with faded illegible cursive writing and a date: Feb (?) 13, 1855. Used to keep water cool because evaporation through unglazed clay allowed warmer water to escape to surface. On View
