DescriptionRed wool navajo blanket
This rug seems to be of the "eyedazzler" style. It contains many bright colors, probably comercially dyed yarns, and its lines move your eyes all over it. It is very busy and although it has more of a banded pattern than the classic eyedazzlers, its brightness and motion are vivid enough to put it in this category. Margaret Kenny 5/91
The combination of colors, produced with commercial dyes, is very unusual for Navajo weaving. However, the design is typically Navajo and the selvages are made with a commonly used technique. The little pigtails (about 15" from the bottom) are braids connecting two selvage threads where the original must have run out.
