DescriptionModel of an Egyptian L-dial of 1500 B.C. (reign of Thutmoses III), the first known dial. The end with cross is turned toward east in mornings. At noon (or 6th hour), dial is reveresed so that end with cross is toward west for afternoon hours. Divides time into temporary hours or Bible time - i.e. the time from sunrise to sunset is divided into 12 equal parts, regardless of the time of year. Hours are called first, second, etc. Noon is the 6th hour, sunset the 12th.On View
