DescriptionLarge painted wood chest with low relief carving on all four sides, no lid or cover. Sides are made of a single, solid plank of cedar with kerfed corners. Ends of planks are fastened with nails. Bottom is a separate piece fastened to sides with numerous nails from bottom up. Short sides contain the principal design and longer sides contain the simpler, symmetrical designs. One end of the chest depicts a small human face near the top. A double eye design sits atop a large, grinning mouth with carved teeth. Predominantly black form line with several secondary red shapes. Opposite end in heavy form lines with a combination of "U forms" in red. Sides are symmetrical. Red claw forms present in lower to upper right corner. Upper left corner depicts a humanoid face looking into a "U form" variant.On View
