DescriptionBody of rattle is wood, probably alder, and is decorated with commercial green, black and red paint with some traces of pencil lead. The overall form of the rattle is that of a bird, the raven, with black wings which lie parallel to the body, and a prominent head. Reclining on the raven's back lies a human figure whose tongue reaches out towards a frog which is held in the beak of another bird, the Kingfisher, of which only the head arises out of the back of the raven. On the underside of the raven's body a hawk is depicted in shallow relief. From the rear of the raven, and forming the tail of the raven, protudes a cylindrical handle. The handle has been inserted into a small black painted cylindrical base for displaying the rattle upright. Small pebbles or beads are inside the raven's belly to produce the rattle sound.
