DescriptionThe back of the head, at the top, extends into a thin point. The blade is angled downward, and the majority of the head is a broad face. The head was driven into the wooden shaft and secured by a long, concave metal band hammered around it. The very bottom of the shaft has a short metal band around it. A tag attached notes: "Head axe of the Igorot tribe - Northern Luzon - Philipines. There are 2 types, this is of the Southern variety - having a straighter edge and only one projection. In times of peace the spike is driven into the ground and objects to be cut drawn along the blade. G.C.S. Dec. 1974."
