DescriptionTwo Hopi women sitting on some type of fur hide. The elder on the left is combing the younger woman's hair (right) with a straw-like material bound together in a fanned-out fashion with what appears to be a thin strip of animal hide. They both wear long dresses. The elder is barefoot and wears a beaded necklace. The younger is wearing hide boots and several beaded necklaces. The younger is also wearing what looks like a bracelet and two silver rings inlaid with some type of stone. They are sitting in front of a stone wall or inside a structure made of stone. There is a wooden u-shaped object and a saucer with clear liquid (water?) inside in the forefront of the picture. Both women are wearing woven belts with Hopi symbols on them. The younger has placed her hand next to her right ear to hold a small, significantly shorter, piece of hair. For more information on this photograph see 1937.59.1.
