Anthropomorphic head
Artist:
PRE-COLUMBIAN/OAXACA
Medium: Ceramic
Classification: Visual Works
Credit Line: Gift of Henry Schnakenberg
Object number: 1954.22.184
DescriptionThe small anthropomorphic head appears to be a man with bird-like features. The material is a fine paste orange clay-typical of late Classic ceramics from Jaina. The random presence of holes indicates that it was used as a whistle. The bottom is fractured as though it was broken off of the original form. The bird-like features of the head, that may be part of the headdress covering. Most of the head, consist of a dull-pointed curve that extends upward, from the face.
