DescriptionGrey-green soapstone carving of figure dressed in high boots, trousers, and parka with hood; hair is long pulled back and braided-probably a woman; squatting on left knee and pulling to her left; facial muscles strained; left hand holds tail (?) to chest, right hand appears to be scraping seal or walrus ULO or woman's knife; women indication that the figure is probably a female; USE: Eskimo art has always been an expression of local life; early carved figures thought, rarely showed people at work (hunting and journeying for men, occupations around home for women)
