DescriptionAttached label reads: Stone Calf and Squaw - Arapaho." However, it appears that Stone Calf and his wife were Southern Cheyennes. Due to millitary pressure and bad weather in the fall and winter of 1874, the Kiowas and Cheyennes began to gives themselves up at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Darlington Agency. Most surrendered during February and March, 1875. 1 A leader of the raids in Texas and Kansas the past summer, 2 Stone Calf surrendered on March 6, along with 820 other Cheyennes. Following the surrender, Stone Calf freed Catherine and Sophia Garman, who had been taken captive six months earlier. 3 The mount is very smudged.
