DescriptionThree curved tiers of scenes from the life of the Buddha are carved in deep relief. The top is the worship of the Buddha's turban; the second is the Buddha with worshippers at Sarnath; the bottom (third) is the Buddha's Descent from the Trayastrimsa Heaven (with 33 gods [the Buddha stands on a central stairs flanked by the gods Indra and Brahma, each on a stair, with risers angled inward.]). The tone slab is an architectural fragment from a Buddhist stupa in the shape of the Caitva arch, probably from the top compartment of a false gable panel. Flat bottom with tenon.
