DescriptionThis woven fragment probably from a mantle consists of 12 figures with small square and stylized birds as space fillers, woven on a rose-colored background; the figures are equally spaced in four horizontal rows of three; they are geometrically identical and repeated in horizontal row pattern, with variation only in the placement of colors within each; colors are varied as to their location but the same colors are used within each figure; brown, rose, yellow-gold, beige-tan, and white; the figures are presented frontally with the displayed pose and hat in the shape of a truncated cone with drooping extensions which is stereotypical in Chimu iconography, and known as the "Crescent Headdress Figure" (colors are also standardized); the warp threads are cotton, while the weft appears to be fine wool (alpaca?)On View
