DescriptionA mountain landscape with a fallen tree in the middle foreground; behind the tree and to the right is a rock cliff and a cave; a small, bearded monk wearing a brown robe and rosary on his belt, kneels before a cross in the dark mouth of the cave; the cross is set upon a stone altar, carved in a Classical(?) motif, and is flanked by two candles; between two mountain peaks in the middle ground is is a small pool surrounded by boulders; directly above the pool, in the space between the mountains, the peaks of another range appear; the sky consists of ominous gray storm clouds with a clearing toward the center
