DescriptionMochica portrait vase modelled in the round in creme and red. The man's face is red, and although the paint is worn off he probalby had red stripes painted over his cheeks. He has a dimpled chin, creme eyes, and headpiece with a chin strap. There are two red stripes on the back of the headpiece with a chin strap. There are two red stripes on the back of the headpiece, which were "distinctive of rank, office or profession (Hoyle 1946:165)", and were of fine cloth; The slight curve of the left half of the mouth seems to depict the contempt this upper-class person probably had for the artist.On View
