DescriptionLarge hollow modelled seated figure of a deity, in monumental form. The face is elongated with pendulent cheeks, slit eyes with arched brows, a smiling mouth and a squared-off beard. The headdress is ornate. One ear spool remains. The deity wears a heavy, braided collar and a twisted girdle with a zoomorphic buckle or rosette at the back. The legs have been broken off so construction of the figure can be seen. The figure wears a wide belt with an object (knife) stuck in the dex. side. P. Shaplin: The face is that of the conventional "Old God" (of fire and the hearth) called "Huehueteotl" by the Aztecs (although I personally dought whether such figures are actually "deities." An owl or Quetzal mask and what appears to be a handle are applied to the figure's rear.
