DescriptionA large circular embroidered textile, pieced together from embroidered panels of black silk damask that must have been originally put together or intended for use as a chan-fu style dragon robe (chinese court robe). The ground fabric is embellished heavily with threads. The main designs are 4 large Chinese dragons, surronded by a background of swirling clouds and water waves. The center "hole" where the neck of the robe should have been filled with a plug piece of embroidery with a smaller fifth dragon. All the dragons have five claws. Two large ones have padded and build up, embroidered eyeballs. The entire textile as is presently exists is lined with dark maroon silk gauze. The awkward seeming curved seam and missmatched embroidery to the left of one of the large dragons marks the spot where the coat overlap should have been.
