DescriptionSteam-bent wood halibut hook of the southern culture area. Composed of stiff wood steamed into a hook shape and stained with a red-brown dye (ochre or seal blood) ? (a beach grass) securing a sharp piece of whale bone to the inner portion of the hook. The bone hook is straight and points back into the "U-shaped" overall configuration. On the opposite side of the hook, more elymus ties on a piece of braided seal or walrus bladder which is knotted at the very end.On View
