DescriptionBuff clay head with roll of clay across forehead and around face under chin. The eyes and mouth are hollows; no nose. The head is attached to a square slab of clay, resembling an architectural feature. Although the head is broken at the neck and appears to have extended into a body. Was probably appliqued to a vessel or "incensano" - the face is the traditional face of Xipe, the "flayed" god of agricultural renewal.
